Air Caster Types
Air casters come in various forms, shapes and sizes, and with many different lift and weight
capacities.
The type of air caster you use will depend on the type of load you would like to
move.
Remember, we are talking about types of Air Caster here - not the type of air bearing that powers it.
Here are the types of air caster that Hovair Systems produces:
Square Aluminum Air Casters
Square aluminum air casters are usually fitted with the standard A-type air bearings. Constructed from aluminum
extrusion, they have built-in air chambers for air flow to the air bearing.
Compressed air is delivered to the air caster module via an air flow control valve, or air inlet port if using a
remote control box. The valve controls the air flow into the module and subsequently to the air bearing
resting on the floor.

Round Steel Air Casters
Round steel air casters are also fitted with the standard A-type air bearings. Constructed from tough
steel, they are ideal for situations where they are required to be fitted permanently under, say, a heavy machine
or similar type load.
Compressed air is delivered to the air caster module via an air flow control valve, or air inlet port if using a
remote control box. The valve controls the air flow into the module and subsequently to the air bearing
resting on the floor.

Low Profile Air Casters
Low profile air casters are much thinner than their RS & SA counterparts (above). Fitted with high-lift
B-type air bearings, they are designed to fit underneath heavy machinery - or similar type loads - where there
is sufficient ground clearance for the modules to slide into. Ideally, the low profile air caster will be very
close to the underside of the load when fitted into place. And, with high-lift air bearings on board, they are
capable of rising and lifting the load clear of the floor surface before moving the load off to its destination. An
excellent alternative for certain situations.

Stainless Steel Air Casters
Stainless steel air casters - like their low profile counterparts above - are designed for specific purposes.
The air module and the VL-type air bearing are fitted together by rolling their edges together to form a
single-piece air caster. The air caster has a fitting screw hole in its center which allows them to be
permanently fitted to certain types of load.
These stainless steel air casters are the caster of choice for clean room applications. They are low profile and
can easily slide underneath delicate machines in clean room and medical facilities.
The are especially suitable for a clean room type of environment because of their operation - fresh air
in - fresh air out. What could be cleaner?
