B-type Air Bearings
The B-type air bearing is used when the load
moving equipment it is part of is required to lift the load before being able to move
off across the floor surface on a thin film of air.
The B-type air bearing is very similar to the A-type except for the lifting properties. The
construction of the B-type air bearing is such that its diaphragm forms an airtight seal with the
floor surface in a different way to the A-type. The B-type has a different shape diaphragm that takes a
little more air pressure to inflate it and subsequently has a little more lift height than the A-type.
While they are referred to as "high-lift air bearings, this additional lift is
not a great amount - like a forklift or fork lift pallet truck - it is a matter of up to 3-inches total lift.
However, this lift is sufficient to cause a load to lift away from its base so that it can be
whisked away to its destination.
