A-type Air Bearings
The A-type air bearing is the most popular type of air bearing that
Hovair Systems sell with their load moving equipment. They are standard
inclusions in most of our products including: air bearing kits, air pallets, air pallet transporters and
air beams.
An A-type air bearing - as shown opposite - consists of a urethane /
rubber diaphragm which is securely attached to an aluminum back-plate. The back-plate contains
grommet holes which supply compressed air from the load module to the air bearing unit.
The aluminum air bearing back-plate can be either
square or circular depending on the type of load module it will be attached to. Square aluminum air bearings
use the square back-plate and round steel air bearings use the circular back-plate. Apart from
the shape, there is no difference between either bearing.
When the A-type is energized and inflated with compressed air, it will lift just sufficiently to cause
the load to rise away from the floor surface into a flotation state. It does not lift the load vertically
at all.
